Mawiw Student Awards
Through financial contributions provided by Emera New Brunswick, the MAWIW Council has developed a student award program designed to recognize the exceptional efforts of our members attending post-secondary institutions. Emera New Brunswick and the MAWIW Council are committed to the development of future generations of Maliseet and Mi’kmaq youth through personal and academic development. This educational initiative is designed to help youth set higher goals and to recognize and encourage their achievements.
Who is eligible?
Maliseet and Mi’kmaq students who are a registered member of the MAWIW communities, Tobique, Elsipogtog or Burnt Church and are enrolled as full-time students (as defined by the respective institution) in the current academic year. Priority will be given to those students being funded through their respective Bands (Post-secondary).
An independent selection committee comprised of MAWIW Council members and an Emera New Brunswick representative will review and score applications based on academic performance, career goals, leadership, role model qualities, and financial need. Once selections have been made, all successful applicants will be notified. Successful recipients will receive their awards at a special awards ceremony, the date and time of which will be included in the award notification letters mailed to successful applicants.
