Mawiw Student Awards
Through financial contributions provided by Emera New Brunswick and Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, the MAWIW Council has developed a student award program designed to recognize the exceptional efforts of our members attending post-secondary institutions.
Emera New Brunswick, Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline and the MAWIW Council are committed to the future generations of Wolastoqey and Mi'kmaq youth through personal and academic development. This educational initiative is designed to help youth set higher goals and to recognize and encourage their achievements.
Who is eligible?
Wolastoqey and Mi’kmaq students who are a registered member of the MAWIW communities: Neqotkuk, Elsipogtog or Esgenoopetitj and are enrolled as full-time students (as defined by the respective institution) in the current academic year. Priority will be given to those students being funded through their respective Bands (Post-secondary). All fields of study will be considered.
An independent selection committee comprised of MAWIW Council members will review and score applications based on academic performance, career goals, leadership, role model qualities, and financial need.
Once selections have been made, all successful applicants will be notified. Successful recipients will receive their awards at a special awards ceremony, the date and time of which will be included in the award notification letters mailed to successful applicants.
The award amount will vary for qualifying students from each Mawiw community who are enrolled in a university, college, vocational, or technical institute.
